Boot Camp

Fred has started boot camp!

Last Saturday, FLEA was out and about exploring Broomfield. Fred apparently didn't see a curb, and smashed his foot right into it.

He didn't seem to be in any pain and never mentioned a thing. I didn't realize how bad he had hurt his foot until Sunday night. His big toe was throbbing, swollen, red, hot, and HUGE!

By Monday morning, his toe was so swollen he couldn't get his shoe on; he went to work wearing one shoe and one sandal. By the time he got home from work, it was clear that it was time to get a doctor involved. So, last night, we went to a medical clinic affiliated with Boulder Community Hospital. X-rays confirmed that his toe is fractured, and the doctor believes it is also infected. They hooked him up to an IV for an antibiotic drip, and he has to return tonight for another round of antibiotics via IV. They gave him a few prescriptions, and they also fitted him with a very fashionable boot to immobilize his toe and help promote healing. Fred wouldn't let me take a picture of him wearing the lovely boot (yet!), but it looks like this: We were very impressed by the top-notch service we received at the med center. From escorting Fred in a wheelchair to offering the girls juice and stickers, they were great. The doctor even took Elisabeth to an office so she could see the x-rays, and took the time to explain the x-rays to her.

Fred has a white-water rafting trip with his work team coming up in a few weeks, so hopefully he'll heal quickly! Happy healing, Fred! (And yes, I WILL get a picture of you in the boot! :-) )
