FLEA Bites: Summertime Visitors

We just bid farewell to my parents, who are on their way back to Michigan after 10 days in Colorado. We had a wonderful time with them and were sad to see them leave. Thanks, Mom and Dad, for flying the girls back to Colorado and for another great visit!

We had dinner in Boulder one night and watched the street performers on the Pearl Street pedestrian mall.

We also drove down to Golden to visit the Mother Cabrini Shrine on Lookout Mountain. We climbed 373 steep stairs up the mountain in high heat and high altitude, with signs reminding us to "beware of dangerous snakes," to reach the summit where there is a 22-foot tall statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was a pretty strenuous climb on a very hot day, but we all made it!

The "stairway of prayer" is a neat ascent with the Stations of the Cross along the stairway, followed by the mysteries of the rosary. At the top, the 10 Commandments encircle the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The stairway was meant to be symbolic of the pathway Christ took on his way to His crucifixion and death. It was pretty cool and the panoramic views at the top of the mountain were fabulous, too. As some of the literature we picked up stated, you don't need to be Catholic to appreciate this place.

We celebrated the 4th of July Bradburn-style by decorating the girls' bikes for the annual neighborhood bike parade. This is the first year the neighborhood hasn't had a fire truck to lead the procession, but I think we did just fine without a big red truck. TONS of people came out for the parade including kids on bikes, kids in wagons, kids in strollers, people on roller blades, unicycles, a golf cart, and an electric scooter.
