Loud and Proud

The other day, the girls were eating lunch and Allison passed some gas. Elisabeth started giggling and said, “Hey mom, Allison tooted! It was LOUD and PROUD!” I have no idea where she learns this stuff (well, I DO have an idea and it's not from her mother…), but I think she realizes it’s not exactly appropriate to discuss flatulence because she quickly added, “We can’t say that at school! That’s a potty word!”

Speaking of loud and proud…we went to the library yesterday to attend a Music and Make Believe session for preschoolers. A storyteller read Bill Martin’s book The Maestro Plays, the kids got to make their own string instruments, and then a string quartet from the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra visited to re-enact the story with music. It was a really fun, interactive, and educational event, and both girls loved it!

The Maestro Plays story includes many adverbs that end in “-ly.” When the storyteller read that the maestro played his instrument “loudly and proudly,” Elisabeth looked over at me with a sly little grin and started giggling. I knew exactly what she was thinking.

We went to the library and some guy read the book The Maestro Plays. It had really silly words like flippingly and skippingly and sweepingly. Then we got some plates with little rubber bands on them and we decorated them and played them like little guitars. Then we went into a really big room and a band played right by us, like really REALLY close to us. The band was the symphony orchestra. They played the violin, viola, and a cello. After the concert we clapped and one little boy said “Bravo!” And I REALLY, really loved it!

We've been spending lots of time outside enjoying this great weather, and the girls have been playing together really nicely. They love to play dress-up together, and they always have time to be a little silly. Here are some of their silly moments from this week. Notice Allison's double binkie trick!
