Daisy Investiture

Tonight was Allison's Daisy Investiture.  All the girls recited the Girl Scout Promise and then got pinned.  Then, we celebrated with root beer floats and s'mores!

Bedroom Makeovers

Both girls' bedrooms got makeovers a while ago.  Elisabeth got a new bed, bedside table, dresser, and bedding.

She also got some new artwork for her wall.  We could've paid $200 for this artwork:
...but I thought I could make something similar myself for a fraction of that price.  I'm no Picasso, but I think these turned out halfway decent if I can say so myself:

Allison didn't need new furniture, but she wanted new bedding too. She picked out this lovely pink and white quilt:

She didn't want the simple pink gingham sheets that went with the quilt (and which would have also matched her curtains); she picked these awesome sheets out instead (which somehow seem to go with her personality very well):
Granny Melms comes tomorrow and then Grandma and Grandpa H. will be here in a few weeks.  The girls can't wait to show you their "new" rooms in person!

Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween from the gypsy and the leopard!
Allison wins the Hallo-green award for the year for wearing one of Elisabeth's old costumes!
We have a large plastic bowl full of sidewalk chalk that we keep on the front porch.  The kids are always using the chalk, so I decided to just leave it out there all the time so they can use it whenever they want it.  Tonight, I noticed that some kids were walking up to our house and helping themselves to a piece of used sidewalk chalk from our bowl, and then leaving!  In our neighborhood, it seems like EVERYONE goes trick or treating.  I saw so many moms/dads out with the kids, it made me wonder who was handing out candy back at their houses.   I took the girls out trick or treating once when Fred was traveling, and I do remember that it's very common for families around here to leave a bowl of candy on the front porch so the moms don't have to stay home to answer the door.  (Boo!  Call me old fashioned, but I personally think part of the fun for the kids is ringing doorbells!)  I'm assuming that people thought we left a bowl of chalk out for them!!  Haha!  I finally moved the bowl of chalk inside.   Sorry, kids, but I think a Reese's peanut butter cup is a lot better than an old piece of chalk!
Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me....a piece of used sidewalk chalk???!!!!???

Lowe's

Allison's kindergarten class went on a field trip to Lowe's today!  I was lucky enough to be a chaperone.  We had lots of fun building a little wagon with hammers and nails.  They are learning about wood in school, so a trip to the lumber department at Lowe's for a little building project was a perfect field trip.

I told my co-workers that I was taking the day off and joked that I'd probably get my fingers nailed to a board.  I think I jinxed myself because that's basically what happened.  Nothing is more dangerous than a 5-year old with a hammer and a nail.  Let's just say my thumb and a nail got to know each other very well today, and Allison is pretty darn good with a hammer.  (OUCH!)
Our little builder
Allison and her partner, Ainsley.  Yes, Allison is very tall, just like her sister!
Allie and me -- before my poor thumb took a nail.
